In the past weeks we dedicated a space to a very interesting Joe Zawinul tribute made by Robert Gluck.
Now we publish an article written by himself, where he explains the origins and the recent development of his project.
Gluck also made available, on his own website, some mp3s of his recent concert at Albany University. You can find the links to the mp3s in the Live Music section of our website.

We publish the article regarding the celebrations for the 20 years of the Zawinul Syndicate, written by Marco Piretti and published on the JazzIt italian jazz magazine. The Wiener Zeitung reported that Joe Zawinul was cremated at Vienna’s Central Cemetary on Tuesday, September 25, after a funeral service in which well known musicians took part. Violinist Toni Stricker and members of the Zawinul Syndicate were there.

His last journey

Joe Zawinul has passed away on September 11, at about 5 AM o'clock, for a rare form of skin cancer. He had been hospitalized on August 5 at Wilhelmine Hospital in Vienna.
It is an immeasurable loss for all the world of music. It will be impossible to fill in the gap that he left in the music and in our hearts.
Personally, I met him and interviewed him several times and I have started knowing him as a human being, as well as a musician, and I know that his heart was really full of love, and how kind and honest he was. I believe that he is in the Heaven with his wife Maxine, that he had lost on July 27, a few weeks before his death.
Many condolences to his family from me and my collaborators.
We will continue in our work, incouranging people to know his music and bringing it to the next generations. His immense work still has to be fully understood.
His son, Erich, said that "Joe Zawinul was born in Earth time on 07 July 1932 and was born in Eternity time on 11 September, 2007".
We are sure that he has found his definitive home, where he can live peacefully forever.

In this extremely sad day, we received tens of e-mails messages from Joe Zawinul's supporters from all over the world. I decided to publish some of them, that you can read here (a lot of messages have been received by our discussion group on Yahoo! Groups).
Yes' it's been a sad day, but also a day where I could really see the love, regard and affection of the people for Joe Zawinul.

Joe Zawinul è deceduto martedì 11 settembre 2007, alle ore 5 circa del mattino, a causa di una rara forma di cancro alla pelle. Era stato ricoverato il 5 agosto scorso all'ospedale Wilhelmine di Vienna.
E' una perdita incommensurabile per tutto il mondo della musica. Sarà impossibile colmare il vuoto da lui lasciato nella musica e nei nostri cuori. Personalmente, avendo iniziato a conoscerlo come uomo, oltre che come musicista, dopo averlo incontrato tante volte, credo che sia nel Paradiso assieme a sua moglie Maxine, che aveva perso il 27 luglio scorso, poche settimane prima della sua morte.
Le più sentite condoglianze vanno dalla sua famiglia, da parte mia e dei miei collaboratori.
Dal nostro canto, continueremo ad incoraggiare le persone a scoprire la sua musica; il suo immenso lavoro deve ancora essere pienamente compreso.
Suo figlio Erich ha dichiarato che "Joe Zawinul è nato alla vita terrestre il 7 luglio 1932, ed alla vita eterna l'11 settembre 2007". Siamo certi che abbia trovato definitivamente la sua casa, dove vivere serenamente per l'eternità.

In questo giorno molto triste, abbiamo ricevuto decine di messaggi da suoi fan sparsi in ogni parte del mondo. Abbiamo deciso di pubblicarne una parte, che potete leggere qui.

Effettivamente è stato un giorno molto triste, ma nel quale abbiamo potuto toccare con mano quanto la gente sia affezionata a Joe Zawinul.
